Southern Simmer by Ashley Farley ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Southern Women’s Fiction
Release Date: January 28, 2024

REVIEW:

Oh my goodness. After Southern Simmer by Ashley Farley I am officially having a book hangover! I went to bed last night thinking about the end of the Sandy Island trilogy and how much I am going to miss these characters. I lost a bit of sleep wondering what was going to happen to some of my favorite characters. Blossom has been one of the best things to come into my reading life in a long time. She is priceless!

Southern Simmer officially releases on January 28th. You can, however, go directly to Ashley Farley’s store and buy it directly from her today! How awesome is that? I love an author that lets us in on the fun early. Don’t you?

Bibi is the new character in this book. She left her husband for a little alone time. She shows up at the new family run B&B on Sandy Island in a taxi at night without a cell phone and no reservation. Kate worries about losing Silas to Bibi and Shelby; her daughter is unexpectedly pregnant! Blossom is there to help them deal with their problems. She is the angel we all need in our lives.

The character development and the creation of the storyline will keep you hooked to the Sandy Island trilogy. I had a hard time putting it down. The characters were unique which I love. They are not hard to remember either. The storyline is so fun and interesting. It is creative and not the same old thing. I highly recommend Ashley Farley’s Sandy Island trilogy to you. This should be high on the nightstand reading pile.

Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

Bibi’s marriage is in trouble, thanks to her stepdaughter, Scarlett, who has driven a wedge between her and Beau. Frustrated and feeling invisible, Bibi vanishes for a few days, hoping to regain her husband’s attention. But instead of the reaction she’d hoped for, Beau reports her missing—along with his family’s priceless heirloom jewels. Now, Bibi’s escape has become headline news, and she’s caught in a web of suspicion she never saw coming.

Kate is wary of the newcomer—who leaves home without their cell phone? Though she hates to admit it, jealousy flares when Silas, her current love interest, fawns over the striking beauty. But Kate has no real claim on him—they’ve only been on one date. When she spots Silas coming out of Bibi’s room during the night, her suspicions grow. Who exactly is this woman, and what is she hiding?

For Shelby, her unplanned pregnancy isn’t a mistake—it’s a lifeline. She’s convinced this baby will fill the emptiness that has haunted her for far too long. Determined to claim this child as hers alone, Shelby refuses to take a paternity test to find out whether Josh or Matt is the father. But the Maybe Daddies are determined to uncover the truth—whether Shelby’s ready for it or not.

The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds by Jennifer Moorman ~ 4⭐

Genre: Magical Realism
Release Date: January 14, 2024

REVIEW:

The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds by Jennifer Moorman is the second book I’ve read by this author. I read The Baker’s Man by her that I totally enjoyed. This one had so many things that I enjoyed about it and for some reason it didn’t all come together for me. I can’t put my finger on it.

The main character is Josephine Reynolds who is a young widow. She doesn’t know how to pull herself out of the grief she is experiencing. Her sister talks her into buying their old ancestral home that belonged to her great-grandmother. I was drawn to the story of a young widow.

She lives in Nashville, Tennessee near my town. That was interesting because the house sits in a historical part of town. I enjoyed her run-ins with the neighborhood historical society president which led her to find the original door to the house and have it installed. This door becomes her entry into 1927 and meeting her great-grandmother Alma as a young widow herself. We soon learn that Alma runs a speakeasy in her basement! How fun would that be and imagine meeting your great-grandmother as a young woman?

Jennifer Moorman did a wonderful job building the suspense but, maybe she did too good of a job for me. I became attached to the characters and worried about their demise. I hated to keep reading. I was afraid of what I would learn. I will have to say that at the end I had warm feelings for the book. I was hoping for a sequel but I think that might be a little too weird. You’ll see what I mean.

I almost think someday I will go back and read this book again knowing how nicely everything works out. At least most of it does. If you like Magical Realism, you will likely love this book. I definitely think you should consider this one for your reading stack!

Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

“The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds drips with lush Jazz Age detail, a vivid cast of characters, and a protagonist whose future literally depends on her ability to navigate the past.” –Barbara Davis, bestselling author of The Echo of Old Books

“Moorman delivers a heartwarming story of love, loss, and time travel . . . readers will be captivated by Moorman’s lovely descriptions of the 1920s.” –Publishers Weekly

“Part fantasy, part romance, part coming-of-age story, this sweetly told tale of a woman’s search for her true self is imbued with Moorman’s trademark touch of magic.” –Kirkus

A captivating tale of family bonds and unexpected chances, threaded with the thrilling magic of time travel, by the author of The Baker’s Man and The Magic All Around.

Can one thoughtless wish erase a life?

Widowed at thirty-five, Josephine Reynolds wishes she could disappear, but her concerned sister convinces her to buy their ancestral home, a Craftsman bungalow in disrepair and foreclosure. It’s a welcome distraction, and Josephine can’t believe her luck when she finds the home’s original door in a salvage yard.

When she installs the door and steps through it, Josephine is transported into 1927, where she meets her great-grandmother Alma, a vivacious and daring woman running an illegal speakeasy in the bungalow’s basement. Immersed in the vibrant Jazz Age, Josephine forms a profound bond with Alma, only to discover upon her return to the present that history has been altered. Alma’s life was tragically cut short in a speakeasy raid just a week after their fateful meeting.

Josephine has a chilling revelation–her own existence is unraveling/vanishing–and she must race against time to rewrite history. Josephine is desperate to not only save Alma but save her own future in a time-bending journey where past and present intertwine in a desperate battle for survival.

Infused with Jennifer Moorman’s signature blend of magical detail and heartfelt storytelling, The Vanishing of Josephine Reynolds is a tale of resilience in the face of loss and a testament to the timeless bond of family.

Missing in Flight by Audrey J Cole ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Crime & Suspense Fiction
Release Date: March 1, 2025

REVIEW:

Audrey J. Cole has definitely blasted Missing in Flight right out of the park! This just might be the best book she has written to date. It is not often I push myself to read faster because I can’t wait to see what is going to happen. Toward the end of the book you will be hanging onto your seat with your heart beating out of your chest. The ending of this book is everything I hoped for.

There are some lessons to be learned in this book and I think some people need to take them to heart. Makayla’s husband Jack poured his heart and soul into his job in finance. He was building his portfolio all at the expense of his personal life. He learned many lessons about that in this book and I hope some people take away some thoughts on how to manage their own lives. Life is short. We need to be aware.

Makayla has an interest in photography and learned she could help the family finances with her little “hobby”. She also was not one to make friends easily and learned the hard way when she let someone into her life with too much ease. We need to be careful of those we meet on the internet and those that approach us out of the blue. In our world you have to keep your wits about you.

Missing in Flight has a lot of action. How does one go missing in flight? That was my big question when I started reading this book. I also learned about a new disease I had never heard of before that Makayla’s mother suffered from. It is a form of Amnesia. This was scary and the investigation in this book was held up with thoughts of this happening to Makayla. Wow! I told you this book had it all.

If you like a book that keeps you glued to your seat, keeps your mind questioning things and one that you just can’t put down, this one’s for you. I am not recommending this one for your nightstand because you will never go to sleep. You will read through the night to see what is going to happen. So, I highly suggest you pick up your copy of Audrey J. Cole’s Missing in Flight for your reading pleasure. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

From USA Today bestselling author Audrey J. Cole comes a harrowing thriller about a woman faced with the unthinkable, when her infant goes missing aboard a plane to New York.

Rushing back to her seat, Makayla Rossi is relieved that all’s still quiet. But when she checks on her sleeping baby, relief morphs into fear. The bassinet is empty.

Liam is gone.

It was a long flight from Anchorage to New York, and with every flight attendant busy, Makayla reluctantly ran to the restroom, asking a seat neighbor to watch her son. She stepped away for just a few minutes. Yet at thirty thousand feet, he still vanished.

Passengers and crew scour the plane to no avail, and since no one recalls seeing her with a baby, suspicions begin to mount about Makayla’s mental state. She’s certain this is nothing like her mother’s on-air memory meltdown. If only Jack, her husband, were there. He would believe her. A high-profile banker featured in Forbes, maybe he could even help.

But Makayla is squarely on her own. And she’ll have to think fast in order to find her son—before it’s too late.

The First Love Myth by Casey Dembowski ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Women’s Romance
Release Date: January 6, 2025

REVIEW:

I have enjoyed all of the books that I’ve read by Casey Dembowski and The First Love Myth is no exception. I couldn’t keep my nose out of this book. It was really good in the end and that is what counts right? Oh! Don’t get me wrong, it was not just the end that was good. The whole book was good or I would have had a hard time staying engaged.

This book has a lot going on. There are a lot of relationships and they intertwine a bit. The chapters rotate between characters. I think Liz is the main character because most of the relationships revolve around her. There are her divorced parents and two sisters and all of their significant other relationships. I had to pay attention to who was who and I don’t think it was hard. I just think my old brain is sometimes a little slow.

There are some interesting characters and some of them you would like to wring their neck. There are some complicated situations and that is what kept my interest. I did like how all of it wound up. It was not tied up all pretty like a Christmas present. It was surprising to me. Let me know what you think.

Casey’s books remind me what young love is like and it makes me remember my own experiences and feelings. Young adult love is not always easy. Some of us marry young and we are still growing up. It helps if you grow together with your person and breaks your heart if you grow in different directions. You probably aim to grow together, but it doesn’t always happen.

If you like a book that delves into relationships at a deeper level and one that has many different relationships, then this is a book for your nightstand. I think this is one you may like to have in your collection. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

Liz Madden has a storybook romance—high school sweethearts, second chances, and a happily-ever-after. But when she finds out that her husband cheated on her, she is forced to make the hard decision and walk away. Unable to reveal the betrayal to those closest to her, Liz instead takes refuge with her father and half-sister, Zoey.

Zoey is nursing her own broken heart after a devastating end to her first love. But true to Reid-sister heritage, she’s courting disaster with a no-strings-attached affair with her ex.

Liz’s marital discord also brings their older sister, Cecilia, back to town. But Cecilia has complicated relationship issues of her own. She’s never forgiven their father for the affair he had seventeen years ago, and she’s also never accepted Zoey as part of the family.

As their respective heartbreaks draw Liz and Zoey closer together, Liz finds she is getting tired of walking the line between her two sisters.

The Reid sisters are each in over their heads. To make it through the summer, they’ll have to heal the fractures between them. Sometimes, forgiveness isn’t always a straight line, and letting go is the only way forward.

A New Leash on Life by Patricia Sands is book nine and the final book of the Dragonfly Cove Dog Park series. I am a fan of Ms. Sands and could not wait to read her contribution to this series. REVIEW:

Teacher’s Pet by David Johnson is the eighth book in the Dragonfly Cove Dog Park series. You have to go and download the first book which is Pick of the Litter because it is FREE and it will give you a taste of what each book is about. We also meet Leslie who is the breeder of this litter of yellow Labrador Retrievers.

In Teacher’s Pet we meet Dorothy who is a retired teacher and her puppy Sadie. Dorothy has had a lot of Labs in her life and Sadie is one of the smartest she has ever had. I wished when I was reading this book that my Lab was as easy to train as her puppy was. Mine was a little bit of a wild child.

Dorothy led an interesting life. She is from Nashville, Tennessee and has never been married, but has nineteen children. I was taken aback by her as she is very abrupt and has little patience for adults. Children and dogs, yes. She melted my heart at the way she communicated with Sadie. I quickly became involved with her story and enjoyed her interactions. She is someone I would love to be friends with.

If you love series and dogs, you will most likely love this series. Go and download Pick of the LItter and begin your binge session. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Unleashed Melody by Julie Carobini ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Small Town & Animal Fiction
Release Date: January 1, 2025

REVIEW:

Unleashed Melody by Julie Carobini is book seven in the Dragonfly Cove Dog Park series. Book one is Pick of the Litter and is a free download. It will give you a taste of what all of the books are about. We are also introduced to Leslie who is the breeder of a beautiful litter of yellow Labrador Retriever puppies. This series tells us the story of where all of the puppies wind up in their forever homes.

Unleashed Melody is the story of Melody and Willow. Melody is recovering from a break up and adopts Willow. She has moved to Dragonfly Cove and is managing a cute little Inn. The owner’s name is Ethan and he is a little hard to put up with. This man runs hot and cold. I have to hand it to Melody. I may not have lasted very long in her position. The job does come with a studio apartment.

I liked this book and the interaction with patrons and the residents of the town. We get to know them in different ways. That is one of the things I like about the series is that we see some of the same interactions from different eyes. Not so many that you feel like you are reading the same book over and over. Just enough to tie things together and to make the books feel cohesive.

If you love series like I do, you should definitely download the first book and then start binge reading the rest of them. I had a hard time putting them down to read other books I committed to. It made me hurry back to them. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Coming Home to Heel by Jodi Allen Rice ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Small Town & Animal Fiction
Release Date: January 1, 2025

REVIEW:

Coming Home to Heel is the sixth book in the Dragonfly Cove Dog Park series by Jodi Allen Rice. I was blessed with being chosen to read all of the books in this series and review them. I will tell you right now all of them are 5 star books!

Leslie is the breeder and she breeds Labrador Retrievers. This litter is all yellows which is a bit unusual. I used to own a Lab and my understanding is that different colors usually pop up within the same litter. Since this is fiction and I have not been involved with Labs for many years, I am not an expert. This is so minor and did not take away from my total enjoyment of the series.

This is my first book by Jodi Allen Rice! I loved it and will be looking to see what else she has written. I would love to see what she does as an individual writer. The authors that have put out these series are all so awesome. I don’t know how their voices blend so effortlessly. I think for me that is part of why I love the series by multiple authors so much. I hope this is a trend that keeps on for many years to come.

This is the story of Nora and Charlie. Nora has lost her mom and just went through a divorce. Her mom left her a cottage in Dragonfly Cove along with the impending birth of a puppy whom she names Charlie. You will enjoy the journey that Nora and Charlie will take you on. I know I did!

If you read one of these books and enjoy it, you will absolutely want to read the others. They are books that give us hope and joy all in one. I urge you to download the first book as it is free and will give you a taste of each book in the series. I bet you won’t be able to resist! Until next time…Happy Reading!

REVIEW:

Loyal and True by Ev Bishop is the fifth book in the Dragonfly Cove Dog Park series. I have been truly enjoying this series and so far this is one of my favorites. You’ll see why in a few minutes.

First of all, you should go and download the first book in this series because it is FREE! You can’t go wrong on that price and after you have read that book you won’t be able to resist reading the rest of them. The first book is Pick of the Litter. It gives you a taste of what all the books are going to be about and an introduction to Leslie who is the breeder of this particular litter of Labrador Retrievers.

Loyal and True is the story of Leo and her sister. They are going to run a bookstore together and raise two puppies together. Doesn’t that sound like a dream come true? Well her sister dies unexpectedly and leaves Leo to do it all herself. Leo can’t bring herself to backout on the puppies and she names them Loyal and True. You must read the book to find out the reason she named them that. It is not what you might think.

A bookstore and puppies and the bookstore is dog friendly! Is there anything better? If these are some of your favorite things, then this is a book that you will enjoy. It is so wonderful. Go download Pick of the Litter and then start binge reading because you’re not going to want to quit until you are done! Until next time…Happy Reading!
