EXCERPT:

The last time I saw my old sex-buddy Robert was years ago, when he ran from Clara’s tree house, but this morning he texts me with a picture attached. He’s sprawled on his bed, wearing nothing but a suggestive pose and a cowboy hat. What’s even more horrifying is the message: I’ve been thinking about you too.

Never mind how uncanny the timing of his text is. No. My first reaction is repulsion; how could I ever have slept with a guy who’d send a picture like this? The hat is so tacky! But after I get over his poor taste in accessories, I realize there are multiple reasons to be disturbed. The feathered cowboy hat is just the tip of the pornographic iceberg.

What if Nick had been around when I’d gotten that text? How could I possibly explain it away? And why did Robert decide to text me now, with everything else that’s been going on? It has to be more than a coincidence.

So I text him back. Can we talk? Today?

Sure, he responds, and sends me his work address.

His single-story office building is on the edge of downtown and I wait outside during lunch hour. At 11:52 I spot Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome walking out and heading straight forthe Jimmy Johns. I step into his path.

“Hi, Robert.”

His face has aged little in the last few years. Unlike Clara’s mother, Robert seems virtually unchanged by tragedy.

“Robin.” He smiles like he can picture me in nothing but a lacy thong. “Hey, how are you?”

“I’m fine, good actually. I’m getting married.” I dig my heels into the sidewalk and hug my arms to my chest. The wind whips through me, but I’ll make it clear: I do not want him warming me up. “I’ve never been happier and I can’t imagine EVER doing ANYTHING to jeopardize that.”

“Congratulations.” He tugs at his tie and the realization that I’m not going to sleep with him skips across his face. “Look, it’s great seeing you, but I’m pressed for time—”

“This won’t take long. I’m sorry to hear about Clara.”

Robert’s finely chiseled jaw goes rigid. “Thanks. But we separated years ago, pretty much right after she found out about you and me. I mean, it’s terrible that she’s missing, but—”

“Missing? Her mother said she’d died.”

“She’s presumed dead.” Robert’s nostrils flare but his shoulders sag. “Clara was traveling in Greece and there was a bus accident. Lots of bodies were burned. It was pretty gruesome. But they looked at dental records and her body was never found.”

“Oh.” Images flood my mind: a bus tumbling down a cliff and erupting into flames, Clara’s beautiful face melting in the ashes, or perhaps, Clara getting up and walking away?

Robert raises his hand as if to pat my shoulder but then he changes his mind. “Sorry, Robin. I really do need to go. Good luck with your marriage; I’m sure you’ll need it.”

He’s almost become a blur on the sidewalk before his comment sinks in.

What a jackass.

MOST ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

What were the biggest rewards and challenges with writing The Standout?

Writing The Standout was both very rewarding and challenging for me. I was in grad school when I began, and two of the first courses I took were in flash fiction and in YA fiction. Flash fiction is all about using a brevity of words for a maximum impact, and leading your readers to a point where they can infer where a character is going on their journey. Several of The Standout’s chapters, especially ones from Ted’s POV, began as flash fiction assignments for that course. I would count how many words I’d written, trying to eliminate as many as possible to stay under the assignment’s limit. This really taught me a golden rule of writing, that often less is more. And, the YA fiction writing class was invaluable for me while writing from Zelda’s POV. At the same time, I felt challenged because I’d never written from a male point-of-view before, and it had been a long time since I’d attempted a teenager’s voice.

How did you research your book?

Just about all my research was done online. However, while I was researching The Standout, there was a show at The Walker (a modern art museum in Minneapolis, where I’m from) that was all about fashion. I went and bought a couple of books in the gift shop afterwards, which were a great reference when writing about Robin’s fashion design challenges. I also dug into my old childhood books to find this compilation of stories from classic ballets, like Swan and Giselle. I referenced it for the design challenges that Robin and Zelda were a part of, and for the condensed ballet stories that Zelda tells. But for everything about climbing roofs, parcour, and Ted’s private investigator course—that was all found via YouTube and Google.

Where do you write—home, coffee shop, train?

Occasionally, if I’ve dropped my daughter off somewhere far from home, and she’ll need a ride back in under two hours, I go to a coffee shop or a library to write. But it isn’t ideal for me. I like to write at home, where I can get up to get a snack or go to the bathroom, and not worry about leaving my laptop out. I also get distracted when people nearby are chatting or whatever. It’s nice to be in my own space, where I can play music and possibly pet my cat, who is my most loyal writing buddy

Exploring the Places That Inspired My Novel

I live in Minneapolis. Nearly twenty years ago, my best friend moved from California back to Kansas City (we both grew up in Lawrence, Kansas.) When she moved, we decided that once a year, we’d meet up in Des Moines, IA, which is almost equidistant from our homes. We’d book a hotel room, and spend uninterrupted time going for walks, talking about our lives, eating out, and drinking wine. This time with my friend is invaluable, but I also enjoy the alone-time that this trip affords me almost as much.

Because, I often get there first, just for the chance to explore a place where no one knows me, and where I can be invisible for a while.

So, over the years I’ve gotten to know Des Moines well. My favorite suburb is West Des Moines, home to Jordan Creek mall. The houses in that area seem nice, but not cookie-cutter, where they’re all built from the same design. West Des Moines is a suburb with sidewalks, trails, and parks. The backyards are spacious and there’s a ton of stuff nearby.

Thus, it’s no coincidence that Robin—the main character in three of my novels—is from Des Moines. So is her extended family. While my decision to put Robin in Des Moines wasn’t random, it wasn’t something I mulled over either. I’d already set a couple of novels in Minneapolis, and I wanted somewhere different, but also where I could write from an informed perspective. Des Moines seemed like the perfect spot, and now it almost feels like a second home.

Tomorrow, I leave on my annual pilgrimage to visit Des Moines and to see my best friend. It’s always one of my favorite weekends of the year! One of the first things I’ll do upon arriving is walk alone through West Des Moines’ neighborhoods. I’ll imagine Robin and her extended family living in the homes I go past, like they’re real people and I’m paying them a visit. (Or just peeking through their windows. Don’t worry—that part is all in my imagination!) It’s a wonderful chance to live inside my own head for a while, and explore a fictional life that might have been my own.

The Hidden Daughter by Soraya Lane ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Historical Romance
Release Date: October 13, 2025

REVIEW:

The Hidden Daughter by Soraya Lane is the seventh book of The Lost Daughters Series. The series will consist of eight books and will soon come to a conclusion. Now is the time to start binge reading if that is what you like to do. I will be sad to see this series end. It has been very enjoyable. I think I have a couple of books to go back and read because life has gotten in my way a bit. Let me tell you what I love most about this  series.

First of all, each book is a story unto itself and can be read as a standalone book. The common thread is a little box of mementos that a mother has left behind for her daughter when she is grown. The daughters are ones that are adopted out because the mother was not able to care for their baby for one reason or another.

The second thing I like is that each book takes place in a different country. You get fabulous descriptions of the surroundings. You learn a little of the culture. I love learning about things in a fun way and this is definitely a fun way to learn a little bit of each country. This book was about Norway. That really grabbed my interest since my Grandmother was born there and came to the United States with her mother and sister when she was six years old.

The mother in this story is about Amelie and her daughter’s name is Aina. Charlotte is the character in the book that received the little wooden box and was prompted to go back home to Norway. She is Aina’s granddaughter. The chapters rotate between 1950 in Norway and the present day. This book tells the story of the whole family and what they have all been through in the last 75 years. It was so good and had me in tears more than once.

If you love wonderful family saga’s and travels to different countries, I highly recommend The Lost Daughter Series. The Hidden Daughter is one of my favorite books so far in the series. They certainly deserve a spot on your nightstand especially if you love Historical Romance. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

Norway, 1951: ‘I need you to know how much I love you, Amalie. I never wanted us to be parted, and I will do whatever it takes to come back to you and our baby. Please wait for me.’

London, present day: Everything in Charlotte’s life is about to change. As she clutches a small box in her palm containing a diamond ring and a Norwegian crest, she knows she must return home to be reunited with her beloved great-grandmother Amalie and her Norwegian family.

Accepting her dream job as a head chef at Norway’s most prestigious hotel, Charlotte is welcomed by the hotel’s head designer, Harrison. For years, Charlotte sacrificed everything for her career. As she tours her new surroundings with Harrison, she soon starts to see a way of focussing on her heart too.

But when Charlotte takes the box to Amalie, everything Charlotte thought she knew about her family changes in an instant. As Amalie clutches the ring that she thought had vanished forever, she reveals a tragic love story and a precious secret that stayed buried for years.

When Charlotte discovers the huge sacrifice Amalie made to keep her family safe, will it give Charlotte the strength she needs to follow her heart? Or will she leave Norway forever?

An utterly heart-warming and stunning story about the importance of following your heart and never being afraid to find your new beginning. Perfect for fans of Santa Montefiore, Lucinda Riley and Victoria Hislop.

The Hitchhikers by Chevy Steven’s ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Women’s Action & Adventure Fiction
Release Date: October 7, 2025

REVIEW:

The Hitchhikers by Chevy Stevens was my first book by this author and I will be looking at her previous books and watching for new ones. This probably won’t be the last book I read by her. I will say for me this book was quite a ride. I found I had to put this book down from time to time because the tension and the drama in the book was hard to read. It was continual and the tension was always underlying. Whew! I’m kind of glad it is over. I think I may be too old for that.

The older couple in the book is Tim and Alice. They have suffered a loss. Tim is a teacher and bought a motorhome to take Alice to the Olympics and a long trip away from home to get back to themselves. They meet a young couple and Tim offers them a ride to a town where they can find work. The ride NEVER ends. Well, it does, but they don’t seem able to ditch the hitchhikers.

I really liked Tim and wondered what was the problem with Alice and I did finally find out. This couple was stellar. I wound up really liking both of them. Ocean and Sky were the hitchhikers and I think in the end I still didn’t like them. The author did a great job with these characters. I didn’t really question the actions of the characters because as the story rolled on you got glimpses into why they were the way they were. It really all made sense.

This was a great book. I think the violence was a bit much for my taste, but I can see a scenario like that happening. Considering the areas that the story took place in, it was a lot easier for the crimes to be committed without them being caught very quickly. All in all it was a very believable story. It just made me mad and sad.

If you like a story that literally makes you hold your breath and sit on the edge of your seat, then this one is for you. I’m not sure it would be a good one for your nightstand. You may wind up with nightmares! For anyone that likes a good crime spree, Chevy Stevens has written The Hitchhikers just for you! Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

Chevy Stevens, the beloved New York Times bestselling author of Still Missing and Those Girls, returns with her most breathtaking thriller yet.

With its relentless pace and unforgettable twists, The Hitchhikers delivers what bestselling author Karin Slaughter calls “a frightening and viscerally chilling road-trip-gone-wrong story.”

Desperation is a dark road…

It’s the summer of 1976. Alice and Tom set out on the remote Canadian highways in their new RV, hoping to heal after a devastating tragedy.

They’ve planned the trip perfectly, every detail accounted for. Then they meet two young hitchhikers and offer them a ride. But Simon and Jenny aren’t what they seem. They’ve left a trail of blood, destruction, and madness behind them.

Now Alice and Tom are prisoners in a deadly game with nowhere to turn. As the tension builds, the lines blur, and the question becomes:

In whose heart does evil truly lie? What secrets are Jenny and Simon hiding? And who will live another day?

A chilling, twist-laden ride to the final page, The Hitchhikers is that rare novel that will break your heart as it holds you in suspense.

The Second Story Bookshop by Denise Hunter ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Clean Romance
Release Date: October 7, 2025

REVIEW:

I’m anxious to share with you The Second Story Bookshop by Denise Hunter. I have enjoyed every book I read by her and this one wasn’t any different. She writes clean and interesting romance books. I know that I am going to be entertained when I pick up one of her books. I hope you will be too.

This book is about a Bookshop and those of us who love books are often drawn to a good story about a book store. I don’t know about you but if there is a library or book store mentioned in the title, I always take a look and most often it goes on my want to read list. I couldn’t resist this one because it was also by Denise Hunter. I didn’t even read the synopsis.

This bookshop was owned by Shelby Thatcher’s Gram who has just passed away. Gram is doing a little matchmaking from the other side. She has left 49% of the shop to Gray Briggs who is Shelby’s ex who broke her heart. She promised herself she would never speak to him again. Now, they have to work together because Shelby does not want to lose her Gram’s shop. This is just scratching the surface of the story. There is so much more going on. Once you open this book, you will be hooked and will not be able to walk away from it.

I love small towns for all the good and the bad. There is definitely some bad going on in this town and it will make you mad. You will probably be rooting for Gray but like me be wondering how in the world this will all work out. Love often will find a way. I just wasn’t sure how.

I loved the characters in this book. They are the kind of people you would want in your own family or circle of friends. I was sad that Gram was gone, but she made her voice heard throughout the book. Shelby’s dad and brother were good guys who butted heads for years. A lot of wrongs were righted in this book and peace was brought for some. I will let you read it to know exactly who, what, when, where and why. It is so worth it!

If you love a good family story and one that takes place around a Bookshop, then this might just be the book you need to read on your next free weekend. I think The Second Story Bookshop by Denise Hunter definitely deserves a top spot on your nightstand.

Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

She inherits the bookshop of her dreams . . . But she has to run it with the ex she vowed never to speak with again. “Book lovers, book clubs, and anyone who’s ever dreamed of owning a bookstore will adore this cleverly interwoven story” (Lisa Wingate, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Shelterwood). Full of fall vibes, The Second Story Bookshop is perfect for fans of Debbie Macomber and Gilmore Girls.

Shelby Thatcher adores working in the charming small-town bookshop her grandmother opened years ago. Since high school, she’s helped Gram turn the shop into a community hub for book lovers in the lakeside town of Grandville, NC. When her beloved grandma passes away, Shelby inherits the bookstore. But to her shock, Gram leaves half ownership to Gray Briggs, the man who broke Shelby’s heart years ago.

Grandville residents have been vilifying Gray as long as he can remember. After graduating high school, he couldn’t skip town fast enough, even though it meant leaving the girl he’d fallen deeply in love with and alienating her family once and for all. Now he’s back, the beneficiary of his elderly friend’s will. Facing the town’s animosity is difficult, but seeing Shelby again is sheer torture. No one could ever stir his heart the way she did.

As the adversaries are forced to work together, Gram’s beyond-the-grave scheme is working–Shelby’s old feelings for Gray begin to resurface. But the problems that destroyed their relationship before still remain, and a new one surfaces–one that threatens Gram’s beloved bookshop. Is their love doomed to fail again, or will they find a way to make it work this time around?

If you’re looking for an enemies-to-lovers, second-chance romance set in a cozy lakeside bookshop brimming with healing, heart, and Southern charm, The Second Story Bookshop is your perfect, feel-good escape. Let Shelby and Gray’s tender journey remind you that sometimes the path back to love starts at the front step of a bookstore.

Threads of Kindness by Barbara Hinske ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction
Release Date: October 2, 2025

REVIEW:

I think I found another series to get lost in. I know I’m late to the party, but just think of the fun I can have catching up! The series is the Rosemont series by Barbara Hinske. I just finished Threads of Kindness, the eleventh book in the series! Don’t be afraid to jump in anywhere because I just did! Ms. Hinske is so talented that you never feel lost when you pick up any book she’s written. How great is that?

Threads of Kindness takes place during the holiday season. Holidays are different this year for some. There is a new museum coming to town and some fun discoveries in the old building that is going to house it and another couple is busy planning their wedding. There is so much happening in this book and I was so engrossed with learning the new characters and all the kindness being shown to each other.

One of the best things about this series is it takes place in the small town of Rosemont. You know me, I love small towns. Rosemont didn’t make me feel like I was home, but it definitely is a town that I would consider living in. I love how the people are so kind and caring. I also love that there are distinct differences in their seasons.

If you are a series fanatic like I am, you will love this series. There is even a special Facebook group that is all about Rosemont for those that love the series. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I plan to. I definitely think you will enjoy this story if for nothing more than a great book to read for the holidays. Grab a copy for your nightstand! You can thank me later. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Maggie Martin isn’t hosting Rosemont’s annual Christmas potluck. Her Christmas cheer has vanished until an exciting piece of news and a call for help propels her into action.

When pipes freeze, the resulting flood exposes a discovery that puts Westbury on the map in a whole new way.

Sunday Sloan and Josh Newlon are immersed in wedding preparations. The gown she bought online arrives, and it’s not the one she ordered. Sunday knows she’ll have to make do with the dress she received—there’s not enough time before the ceremony for her to find the dress she’s dreamed of since childhood. The women of Westbury will hear none of it. With the clock ticking toward the big day, a circle of determined women turns disaster into a shared triumph of friendship and skill.

Welcome back to Rosemont, where every chapter feels like coming home.

Praise for Coming to Rosemont:

“In a category that doesn’t often feature felonious crimes as a main plot point, it’s somewhat surprising to see this title — with corruption, fraud, and arson coursing through the story — in a list of top performers. But with enough twists and turns to hook any reader’s attention, an adorable dog on the cover, and some classic women’s fiction tropes, Coming To Rosemont delivered more than enough firepower to win over our readers!” BookBub’s Best: Women’s Fiction (#4)

“In this series opener, Hinske immerses readers in a delightful small town….The joys of the tale come from the warm relationships and the story of a woman getting a second chance at life and love.” Publishers Weekly (BookLife)

Under A Christmas Star by Tammy L. Grace ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Christmas Romance
Release Date: October 1, 2025

REVIEW:

Under A Christmas Star by Tammy L. Grace is the third book in the Hometown Christmas series. It is my second Christmas book of the year and my favorite one so far!  There are a few reasons for that, so let me tell you why.

First of all, I am a huge fan of anything by Ms. Grace. She always makes me yearn for my hometown. She writes mostly about small towns and the wonderful people that inhabit them. Life is different in a small town. More like things were when I was growing up. We lived in a small town during my high school years and I loved the freedoms that I was able to have. You behave differently in a town where everyone knows your name, your parents, and all your business.

Second, if you’ve read the first two books, you have already met some of the characters in this book. Harper is the main character in this book and I was hoping she would get her own story told. She is a new elementary school teacher at the local school and lives in her grandmother’s old home.

Third, she always includes dogs in her books who are always faithful companions. I have a couple myself and know how much comfort they can be if you are down or not feeling well. They are the best!

Fourth, Tammy offers us a wide variety of books to read. She has a few different series out including a detective series that is really good. She has also started a new thriller series that promises to be awesome.

If you have not read anything by Tammy L. Grace yet, I strongly encourage you to give her a try. Whenever a new book by her comes out, I’m ready to get a drink and snuggle into my recliner for a good read. Her books always bring me a feeling of well being and peace when I am done reading. Check out her work and pick something for the tbr pile on your nightstand. You won’t be sorry. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Messy Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Farley ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Christmas Romance
Release Date: September 30 2025

REVIEW:

I have the perfect book recommendation to put you in the mood for Christmas stories and movies, Messy Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Farley. It is a novella that takes place during the holidays, and it’s so much fun, but it’s a mess, as the title says.

Sloane Delaney has been working hard all year long for a promotion at work, and on Thanksgiving weekend, she is handed a large project. It is an inopportune time, but if she can just pull it off, that promotion just might be hers. She finds Reid McAlister at a Christmas Tree Lot, the perfect model for her ad campaign. Let’s put it this way, he is perfect in every way!

The characters in this book are perfect. Well, some are not. They are all there for a reason, and they fulfill their reason for being in the book with perfection. I flat out didn’t like some of them, and I was definitely rooting for the Sloane and Reid team. I can’t tell you how it all worked out. You deserve to enjoy every delicious moment of this little gem of a book.

The storyline is fast-paced since it is a novella. I enjoyed that immensely. There were not any boring or slow parts. I enjoyed my time with the characters and kind of felt like I was a mouse in the corner following them through the storyline.

You may want to consider a copy of this book for your nightstand. Messy Under the Mistletoe by Ashley Farley is one of those books to take to your cozy bed with a hot cup of tea to enjoy until you finish it and drift off into dreamland. You might want to consider a few copies for stocking stuffers! Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

She needed a model. What she got was a mess—and maybe the love of her life.

Sloane Delaney is one big pitch away from the promotion she’s worked for all year. All she needs is the perfect face for her new men’s grooming campaign—someone who embodies every version of the modern man. When she spots a flannel-clad Christmas tree vendor with an annoyingly perfect jawline, she sees more than lumberjack vibes—she sees potential.

Reid McAllister would rather stay behind the scenes at his family’s tree lot than be anyone’s holiday fantasy. But when Sloane dangles a paycheck big enough to solve his money problems (and maybe win back the girl who dumped him), he agrees to play along. One kiss for the camera turns into something that feels dangerously real—especially under the mistletoe.
Now Sloane has a campaign to launch, a fiancé who’s getting suspicious, and a growing problem: she might have cast the wrong man in her real-life love story.

Not Again Amy’s Story by Maria Henriksen ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Contemporary Christian Inspirational
Release Date: September 25, 2025

REVIEW:

I have to say that I truly enjoyed Not Again Amy’s Story by Maria T. Henriksen. This is the fourth installment of the Not Again series that she is writing. This one was the best one so far. I liked them all, but Amy’s Story was so full of action and happenings that I did not expect. These books are considered Christian Fiction but please don’t let that scare you away. The stories are great and they are not in your face. They give you a lesson on what faith can do in your life.

When the book opens, Amy is about to go off to her senior year of college. When she is there and all settled she goes to eat in the cafeteria and is told her meal card was not renewed. She calls home to find out what the problem is and her mom tells her they are in financial trouble and she will have to find a job to pay her expenses and the next two semesters she is totally on her own. She will have to find a way to pay for her classes and expenses. Now, she has to work full time and attend classes full time. That is where all the trouble starts.

My heart went out to Amy. I liked the characters in this book. They are well developed and are faithful people. I didn’t find anything that made me wonder why someone was the way they were. When you meet a character, you know who they are and what their purpose is in the book.

Ms. Henriksen did a phenomenal job writing this story for her devoted readers. I was involved in the characters and the storyline, making it hard for me to put it down. I was busily reading in between my chores.

If you love Christian Fiction and even if you don’t and just love a good story, then this book is for you. It certainly deserves a spot on your nightstand.

Until next time…Happy Reading!

The Truth About You by Michael Clark ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Psychological Literary Fiction
Release Date: August 11, 2025

REVIEW:

I signed up to do a spotlight on The Truth About You by Michael Clark without a promise that I would be able to read it. Well, I did read it, and wow, am I glad I did! This book  made me think. The sub-title is “You’ll never view domestic violence the same way again”. I never will. At one point, I was so mad, I told my husband I hated the book. I didn’t. It was the situation that I hated.

If you know anyone who was involved in a domestic violence situation, you may know what I am talking about. This couple had an argument, and the man slapped her. Was he wrong? Yes, he was. Did he freely admit it? Yes. One thing that has changed in these kinds of cases is that once one of the partners hits the other, they are the guilty one no matter what the other person did. Is that fair? Probably.

I am not sure that one person gets off free for pushing the buttons of the other person relentlessly until that person gets to the breaking point. Nobody deserves to be physically abused, but there are many other ways to abuse a person, and I felt like this woman used every one of them she could. I was so mad. Her husband had to take classes, and when he wanted her to go to marriage counseling, she was advised not to because he might use what she said to beat her later.

There was so much wrong in this situation. Somebody should have been able to save the marriage, but nobody could come together to help this couple figure out how to fix their relationship. Everything was for the victim, and everything was against the so-called violent one.

This book was written by Michael Clark, who once was an abuser and is now the founder and Executive Director of the Ananias Foundation. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and abuse at its source.

I highly recommend this book if you are a victim or an abuser or know someone who is involved in an abusive relationship. This book will make you look at things differently. I know I hated the situation for the ones involved, and in the end, I felt sorry for all of them. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

You think you know what abusive relationships look like, until you see it for yourself.

When Lucy and Meg’s mother is assaulted by her husband, stepfather Greg, his arrest seems to mark the end of a nightmare. But when their mother chooses to stay with him, the sisters are thrust into a disturbing moral dilemma.

Desperate to protect her, they take a drastic step: secretly install hidden cameras to capture the truth for themselves—and the rest of the world. What unfolds isn’t what Lucy expected.

Told with emotional clarity and literary depth, The Truth About You probes the unsettling gap between what we’re taught to believe and the evidence. As Lucy grapples with conflicting narratives of abuse, loyalty, and manipulation, she’s forced to question not only her mother and stepfather’s roles in this abusive relationship, but the entire framework of judgment, justice, and victimhood.

This is a bold, timely novel for readers who crave psychological insight, emotional complexity, and stories that challenge assumptions. Fans of dark literary fiction and contemporary women’s drama will find themselves haunted by the questions this story refuses to answer easily.

Read it, question everything, and decide for yourself.

Q&A:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Michael Clark is the founder and Executive Director of the Ananias Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to ending domestic violence at its root, by working with those who have caused harm. Through the foundation, Michael has supported thousands of individuals seeking to break free from abusive behaviors, offering guidance, and hope for change.

What makes Michael’s voice distinct is the depth of personal experience he brings to his work. A former domestic violence offender himself, he has walked the difficult road of transformation. Today, he writes, speaks, and leads from that hard-won perspective, helping others understand the mindset behind abuse, and how real, lasting change is possible.

He is the author of The Truth About You, a domestic violence themed novel, and From Villain to Hero, a candid and powerful memoir that traces his journey from being abusive to becoming a safe and emotionally healthy partner. His writing is marked by honesty, compassion, and a deep understanding of the internal and relational dynamics at play in abusive relationships.

Guarded Hearts by Wendy Million ~ 5⭐️

Genre: Women’s Fiction
Release Date: September 26, 2025

REVIEW:

Guarded Hearts: A Little Falls small town romance is a delicious new book from one of my favorite authors, Wendy Million. It is a steamy romance that will literally burn your fingertips while you are reading this one. The love between Pasha and Alyssa is absolutely swoonworthy.

If you have read the other books in this series, you will remember that Pasha is the Russian bodyguard of Mia, the popstar. I love Pasha received his own installment of the series. He deserved it. Alyssa is one of the dancers in Mia’s concert tour. This is her second tour with Mia and Pasha has been watching her since the first tour. Alyssa choreographs a dance routine for Mia’s wedding and asks Alyssa to teach it to Pasha. The sparks begin to fly!

I love the character development in this series. Most of them are from Little Falls or at least live there. People from small towns are a little different from big city people. I’m not knocking big towns. I just seem to gravitate to small towns and books that take place in them. They always make me feel like I have had a visit home. Remember, in small towns everyone knows each other and their business!

If you love steamy romance or just like it for a break from your normal reads, Wendy Millions Little Falls small town romance series is a must! Guarded Hearts was a “do not miss” for me. I do think you need to read the whole series from book one. You will get a richer understanding of the background. I think each book will stand on its own, but the experience will be more fulfilling. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS:

My boss’s bodyguard is every temptation I can’t afford.

Beautiful. Thoughtful. Protective.
Falling for Pasha could mean I lose everything: my dream job as a dancer on tour, my chance to pay off debts, and my heart.

At first, I thought we could have one night together, but I was wrong.
I can’t escape this pull we have between us like two planets circling each other–always close but never colliding.

When our popstar boss comes to me to help him learn a dance for her wedding, yes is the only answer. It doesn’t matter that being near him makes me want what I can never have.
Every move we make reminds me of what it was like to be tangled up in bed together.

Love taught us both that love and loss go hand in hand.
Except no one has ever made me feel as safe as Pasha has.
Maybe–letting our guards down could mean forever this time.

Content considerations: risk of bankruptcy, death of a partner
