Comfort in Lavender Valley by Tammy L Grace ~ 5⭐

Genre: Women’s Literature ~ Release Date: August 16, 2023

REVIEW: Comfort In Lavender Valley is book five of Sisters of the Heart. There are six books and I am already feeling a little heartbroken that the next book will be the final book for this series. Tammy L. Grace writes the most heartwarming stories with characters you come to love and care for and settings I want to live in. She writes books that take place in a world where I want to live.

This story is about Lydia. We find out why she has never settled down and why she really needs Lavender Valley and her Sisters of the Heart. So far we have come to know most of the characters. They have all had their trials in life and need a place to land and people to support them. Jewel was their foster mother at one time just not at the same time. All of these ladies were close to her heart and she somehow knew they would need her farm as a place of healing. Not only that, they all seem to have the special talents that will keep the farm place going as long as they need it.

The Sisters of the Heart are all preparing for the Lavender Festival that takes place each year in Lavender Valley. This was a special project developed by Jewel and I believe it is a way to help provide for the business owners and to bring the community closer and give them a feeling of belonging. Jewel was a pretty smart cookie. She was a foster mom to many children over the years and she even has a dog rescue! I don’t think Tammy Grace is physically able to write a book without dogs as important characters. What could be better?

You really need to read these books to see how the special talents of all the sisters work together and why Jewel felt they would need her farm and the support of the other sisters. These books are very intricately woven together. You will love the main characters and the other people in town that you also get to meet. There are a few scoundrels along the way and that makes it all the more interesting.

I recommend these books for a binge read. I hate waiting in between but, at this point if you have to wait for the last one, it won’t be long. These books make you feel like you are wrapped in a blanket of love. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Weekend on Sullivan’s Island by Ashley Farley ~ 5⭐

Genres: Women’s & Southern Fiction ~ Release Date: August 8, 2023

REVIEW: My “Weekend on Sullivan’s Island” was fabulous and I hope you’ll enjoy yours too! I had such a fun visit with all of these characters and finding out how their lives are panning out. Some are having some problems and some are going along just fine. Just what you might think. Let me tell you, this is not a boring book. Ashley Farley keeps us on our toes as we enjoy our Weekend on Sullivan’s Island.

Apparently, this book and After the Storm are stand alone novels and not part of a series but, they read as a series. I don’t know if this was overlooked while posting on Amazon. Ms. Farley was in the middle of a life changing move as this book was making its way to our hands. I think there is more to the story to come so I’m hoping we are going to at least get another book with these lovely characters. I have really enjoyed them. They are the children of a previous series that I have not read yet and I find that is not necessary. I am looking forward to going back to reading that series too.

This is also one of those authors for me that is a go to when looking for something great to read. I don’t need to read the synopsis on her new books that are coming out to know it will be something that I will enjoy. She writes some of the best characters and her settings are always something to look forward to. The storylines are often intricate but they are not hard to follow.

Ashley Farley is an accomplished writer with a huge selection of books to choose from. If you haven’t read anything by her, I highly recommend any of her books although there are many I haven’t read yet. She never disappoints me. I recommend a Weekend on Sullivan’s Island! Until next time…Happy Reading!

The Secret Midwife by Soraya M Lane ~ 5⭐

Genre: Historical Fiction ~ Release Date: August 1, 2023

REVIEW: Once again I am reminded that Soraya M. Lane writes some of the best Historical Fiction you will find in the book world today. She bases her novels on Historical facts and creates such wonderful characters. I love when I can read a book and learn something along the way and also get so involved with the characters that I actually forget I’m reading a book. She writes books that I don’t want to put down until I’m done. Sadly, I have to.

The Secret Midwife was one of those books. I was so wrapped up in the lives of the characters and all the horrible things they were going through to stay alive at Auschwitz. This book is not based on actual characters but on the many experiences of the Polish Resistance. Soraya Lane actually prompted me to do a little research on my own on a few subjects in her book. One of them shocked me so much, I had to see if it really happened and it did!

I loved the duel timeline. It was about 90% during the war years if not more. The other part was told by one of the characters that survived internment at Auschwitz. I have read several books that took place during this time and her book was spot on. Maybe the conditions were a bit worse than I remembered reading. Maybe, I just took it harder this time because I was invested in the characters. Emilia is the Midwife and Aleksy is the doctor who helps her treat some of the women.

There is a love story that develops between Emilia and Aleksy. It starts as admiration and friendship. It is very secondary to the story. It was a beautiful relationship that was allowed to grow after the war. The things that happened at Auschwitz will break your heart. My heart is still a little broken for all those that suffered there and were not able to leave. Thousands a day were exterminated at Auschwitz.

If you enjoy learning while you read, getting involved with the characters and being able to feel all the feelings these folks suffered, you will absolutely love this book. We need these books to show us what really happened even though some believe it never happened in the first place. We need to know our history. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS: From the bestselling author of The London Girls comes a story of courage and resilience amidst the horror of Auschwitz—and one woman’s last chance to share it with the world.

London, 1995: When on the fiftieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz a news broadcast runs an appeal for information on the identity of a midwife who saved hundreds of lives, Emilia knows it is time to finally tell her story.

Occupied Poland, 1942: Despite the constant presence of German soldiers in her village, Emilia is allowed certain freedoms as a midwife—the most precious is innocently cycling past Nazi checkpoints to the homes of expectant mothers on her rounds. But Emilia has a secret: for years she’s also been visiting the hidden Jewish mothers and working for the resistance…until she is betrayed.

Suddenly a prisoner of Auschwitz, Emilia is surrounded by horror and despair. When she is put to work as a midwife in the camp, she realises that she has a chance to bring a small glimmer of hope to the pregnant women of Auschwitz. Alongside a brave imprisoned doctor, Aleksy, and an innocent outcast, Lena, she comes up with a dangerous plan. A plan that if discovered could mean a fate far worse than death, but if they act undetected, they could save countless lives…

The Secret Midwife is a work of fiction, but inspired by many real-life accounts of the Polish resistance, the brave doctors, nurses and midwives imprisoned in the camps and those who fought to save as many lives as possible in Poland during World War II.

Beyond Betrayal by Bette Lee Crosby ~ 5⭐

Genre: Family Life Fiction ~ Release Date: June 20, 2023

REVIEW: Have I got a book to share with you! Beyond Betrayal by Bette Lee Crosby is a book that will tear your heart out and put it back together again. Maybe a few times while reading her new book. I know I’m late to the game but, let’s just blame it on Senior brain. Works for me but, I do apologize for being late.

Susan Robertson is the main character of the book. I could really identify with her as I have been through losing a spouse and having to deal with the loss, doubts, fear and everything that goes with losing someone you have built a life with. Bette created some fabulous characters in this book. I too had a special friend that took care of me in those early days.

I especially loved the parts where Susan was finally able to come to grips with her grief and move on with her life. You never leave that grief behind. You learn to deal with it and you learn that life is for the living and you give yourself permission to explore a new life without that spouse. I understood some of the things Susan grappled with and how she was able to make her decisions. Sometimes, we make decisions that our family and friends don’t agree with but they need to be made.

I was right there rooting for Susan everytime I knew she was making a step in the right direction. I was also rooting for her to put away her crutches and stand up on her own two feet. I was so proud of how strong she became. She learned to rely on herself and not be dependent on the men that came into her life. Women who are approaching retirement or beyond were raised in an era that men were the most important thing in our lives. Some of us learn they are an important part of our lives but, we are just as important. We need to take care of ourselves.

Bette Lee Crosby wrote an important and inspiring book when she wrote Beyond Betrayal. I think this should be a must read for many women. Take my advice and pick up a copy of this book for your reading pleasure. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Get A Room by Casey Dembowski ~ 5⭐

Genre: Romantic Comedy ~ Release Date: July 18 2023

REVIEW: Get A Room by Casey Dembowski is her best book yet! The more I read from Casey, the more I love her books. This is her third published book. I’ve read her from the start and begged to be on her review team. She is awesome.

Casey writes characters that are flawed and lovable at the same time. She brings them through relationships and writes about family love and loyalty. She has a heart and you can see it in her writing. Casey Dembowski needs to keep writing for years to come. I need books like these in my life!

Sarah and her friend Jess are besties and have been there through thick and thin. Can you give up your best friend for a boyfriend? This book deals with the answer. Brian is the boyfriend in this book and also the brother of Jess. Jess made her brother promise years ago he would never date her friends. She also made Sarah promise she wouldn’t date her brother. Why? You’ll have to read the book. The promise they both made wasn’t had to keep. They hated each other! For literally years!

This story has a few spicy scenes in it but nothing I was shocked by. They weren’t over the top and were really quite sweet. Of course, this doesn’t bother me much. I think it can enhance a story depending on how it is used.

Toward the end of the book I felt like my own heart was being ripped out. I wanted to throw my tablet across the room and I wanted to cry. I had to save the end of the book to finish in the morning. That wasn’t a good idea because I didn’t have a restful night worrying about the characters. I know it’s crazy! I really get involved with my books and this was an easy one to take to heart.

If you love to read a good love story, this is it! Casey Dembowski did an exceptional job of writing Get A Room. Get your book asap! You’ll fall in love. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS: Brian Hawkins has had the worst year. He watched his girlfriend marry another man, lost his job and his apartment, and after a summer under his parents’ roof, has taken refuge with his younger sister. A quiet few months in Philadelphia are just what he needs to clear his head and get back on his feet. But he’s barely unpacked before the bane of his existence, his sister’s best friend, shows up. His planned solitude is replaced by pop songs, rom-coms, and bright-pink hair. All that would be bearable, except there’s only one extra bed, and there’s no way he’s sharing it with her.

Sarah Webb didn’t think anything could be worse than a marriage-proposal-gone-wrong walk of shame to her best friend’s apartment. But she was wrong. So wrong. Because she’s not just staying with Jess. She’s also sharing space with Jess’s older brother. Brian is grumpy and stubborn and—not that Sarah would ever admit it out loud—totally hot. He’s also off limits, which is why she should let him have the bedroom, stop staring at his abs, and keep her distance. But playing nice isn’t in her nature.

As Sarah and Brian pull pranks and place wagers over who can lay claim to the bed, things between them start to shift. Sarah can admit that Brian has his moments, and Brian sees a side of Sarah she usually keeps hidden. When she needs a last-minute date for a charity gala where her doctor-ex is going to be in attendance, Brian seems like the perfect fake date. But as they spin around the dance floor, their fledgling friendship turns to something unexpected—and only one thing’s certain: more than just the bed is up for grabs.

Blossoms At Lavender Valley by Tammy L Grace ~ 5⭐

Genre: Women’s Literature ~ Release Date: July 12, 2023

REVIEW: Blossoms at Lavender Valley is book four of the Sisters of the Heart series. I fell in love with the free download Greetings from Lavender Valley and knew that I was going to be reading all of the books. If you haven’t read that one yet, hurry and get your free copy. You’ll be glad you did.

Jewel along with her husband are the owners of Lavender Valley Farm. They were not able to have children of their own and they became foster parents to many children over the years. Jewel became especially attached to five of the girls and called them her daughters. She kept with all of them over the years. They are all invited back to the farm for a year to help run it.

This story is about Micki. The farm is where her love of flowers was born. You’ll find each woman found a certain something about themselves while living under Jewel’s roof years ago. I have enjoyed seeing them work out their problems and reading of their memories of that time period. It was nice to see what an influence it had on each of these women’s lives.

I devour these books the moment they hit my inbox. Life got in the way and took over and I was not able to post yesterday as I normally do. If you love wholesome and heartwarming stories then this series is a must. In fact, it hit number one during the night for new releases!

I just know you’re gonna love this book and series. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Dark Dangerous Truth by J.S.Ellis ~ 5⭐

Genre: Psychological Fiction ~ Release Date: June 27, 2023

REVIEW: Bravo! Dark Dangerous Truth is a brand new Domestic Thriller coming to us from J.S.Ellis. I’m sure she will have many fans of her new book. It is told in a very different way and I kind of liked it. Oh! By the way, there is a huge twist at the end that totally blindsided me. I love when a book gives me that kind of experience. It is one you don’t forget very easily.

James Hall is the main character and the book is told from his point of view. He goes back to the beginning and tells the story with snippets of things his son told him later. So, you kind of get the feeling that things work out ok. At least it looks like his son is alive and they have talked.

James is a nurse in a psychiatric hospital and Evelyne is one of the patients who has been admitted for killing her parents and brother. When the police arrive, she is sitting on the couch watching television with the rifle laying on the couch next to her. She has been a patient for three years when she escapes.

James has recently lost his wife and his twenty-one year old son moves back home. We hear his side of the story about his son being on the run with Evelyne. That would scare me if my son were with a killer. This book has so many twists and turns. Evelyne’s ex-finance is in the story along with her doctor.

I was immediately drawn into this story because of the way it was told. It was so different from anything I have read before. I read a lot so when a book comes at me in a completely different way, it catches my attention. If you love Psychological Fiction, I guarantee you will enjoy this book. Until next time…Happy Reading!

The One by Audrey J. Cole ~ 4⭐

Genre: Domestic Thriller ~ Release Date: June 27, 2023

REVIEW: Wow! I just finished The One by Audrey J Cole. My mind was going in so many directions in this book but it turned out great. I have loved Audrey’s books since I started reading them. They are always books I can’t put down. There’s always something that pulls at my brain and I have that driving need to see how it ends and this was no exception.

This is a detective story and a medical story. Sloan is an ER doc and her husband Ethan is the detective. Hence the Domestic Thriller. You can imagine how busy their lives are. They are constantly working, she is covering for docs in her department and he is working on homicide cases which sometimes keeps him out at all hours. I liked both of the main characters. Kay is Ethan’s mother and I have a new respect for her that I did not have in the beginning of the book.

There was so much going on in this book. Mainly, trouble for the couple and I wondered how in the world they were going to get out of all of it unscathed. You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens. I won’t ruin it for you one way or another. I did wonder at one point if it was over the top. By the time I finished the book, I didn’t care. It was all worth my doubt.

If you like police procedurals, detective stories or books about doctors and hospital goings on, you’ll like this book. I love murder and medicine so this book is right in my wheelhouse. If this comes close to anything you like, try it out. If you love Audrey J Cole books, this one is a must read! Until next time…Happy Reading!

Where the Grass Grows Blue by Hope Gibbs ~ 5⭐

Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction ~ Release Date: May 16, 2023

REVIEW: If you remember, I was part of the Blog Tour for the new book recently released by Hope Gibbs titled Where the Grass Grows Blue. When I was hosting the tour I was out of town and had not been able to finish the book. I am home now and finished the book. I told you I was absorbed in it by the end of the first page. Well, I have completed the book and want to tell you what a fabulous book this was.

I don’t go through the synopsis but, it is posted below for your reference. This book takes place in two time periods and two settings. The first time we meet Penny she is in Atlanta, recently divorced. Her Grandmother has passed away and willed Penny her home in Camden, Kentucky where a lot of the book takes place. She grew up there and the other timeline tells us about her growing up years.

This book has some wonderful characters. I fell in love with them and if you ask me, I would never go back to Atlanta. The homes there and the churches and most of all the love of the community mean everything. It is so small it is still a safe place to live. You know me…I love small towns. Who wants to live in Atlanta?

This book has so many facets. She is learning to be on her own again raising three young boys. She has to deal with some tough stuff from her childhood. Oh and you know those relatives that come out like bugs looking for their fair share when someone dies. There are the nosey people and then there are those that still love and care for her. I really like Penny and most of the people that come into her life or were a part of it at one time.

If you love beautiful family sagas and seeing all sides of someone’s life, you most likely will fall in love with this book. This is a debut novel by this author and I definitely keep my eye out for more by Hope Gibbs. Give Where the Grass Grows Blue a try. I think you will find something to love. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Hope has a B.A. from Western Kentucky University and is a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association.
