The One by Audrey J. Cole ~ 4⭐

Genre: Domestic Thriller ~ Release Date: June 27, 2023

REVIEW: Wow! I just finished The One by Audrey J Cole. My mind was going in so many directions in this book but it turned out great. I have loved Audrey’s books since I started reading them. They are always books I can’t put down. There’s always something that pulls at my brain and I have that driving need to see how it ends and this was no exception.

This is a detective story and a medical story. Sloan is an ER doc and her husband Ethan is the detective. Hence the Domestic Thriller. You can imagine how busy their lives are. They are constantly working, she is covering for docs in her department and he is working on homicide cases which sometimes keeps him out at all hours. I liked both of the main characters. Kay is Ethan’s mother and I have a new respect for her that I did not have in the beginning of the book.

There was so much going on in this book. Mainly, trouble for the couple and I wondered how in the world they were going to get out of all of it unscathed. You’ll have to read the book to find out what happens. I won’t ruin it for you one way or another. I did wonder at one point if it was over the top. By the time I finished the book, I didn’t care. It was all worth my doubt.

If you like police procedurals, detective stories or books about doctors and hospital goings on, you’ll like this book. I love murder and medicine so this book is right in my wheelhouse. If this comes close to anything you like, try it out. If you love Audrey J Cole books, this one is a must read! Until next time…Happy Reading!

Months later, Sloane bumps into Brody, who’s recently returned to Seattle. In due time, Ethan worries she’s cheating. Where the Grass Grows Blue by Hope Gibbs ~ 5⭐

Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction ~ Release Date: May 16, 2023

REVIEW: If you remember, I was part of the Blog Tour for the new book recently released by Hope Gibbs titled Where the Grass Grows Blue. When I was hosting the tour I was out of town and had not been able to finish the book. I am home now and finished the book. I told you I was absorbed in it by the end of the first page. Well, I have completed the book and want to tell you what a fabulous book this was.

I don’t go through the synopsis but, it is posted below for your reference. This book takes place in two time periods and two settings. The first time we meet Penny she is in Atlanta, recently divorced. Her Grandmother has passed away and willed Penny her home in Camden, Kentucky where a lot of the book takes place. She grew up there and the other timeline tells us about her growing up years.

This book has some wonderful characters. I fell in love with them and if you ask me, I would never go back to Atlanta. The homes there and the churches and most of all the love of the community mean everything. It is so small it is still a safe place to live. You know me…I love small towns. Who wants to live in Atlanta?

This book has so many facets. She is learning to be on her own again raising three young boys. She has to deal with some tough stuff from her childhood. Oh and you know those relatives that come out like bugs looking for their fair share when someone dies. There are the nosey people and then there are those that still love and care for her. I really like Penny and most of the people that come into her life or were a part of it at one time.

If you love beautiful family sagas and seeing all sides of someone’s life, you most likely will fall in love with this book. This is a debut novel by this author and I definitely keep my eye out for more by Hope Gibbs. Give Where the Grass Grows Blue a try. I think you will find something to love. Until next time…Happy Reading!

Miss Matched by Wendy Million ~ 5⭐

Genre: Women’s Romance Fiction ~ Release Date: June 13, 2023

REVIEW: Wendy Million has outdone herself! She has written many books that I have totally enjoyed but, Miss Matched was total fun. This book is unique. The premise of the dating game is a little twisted and I think you will have as much fun with this book as I did. I don’t think you can go wrong. This is a perfect beach read! I didn’t go to the beach and enjoyed it anyway!

The one thing I found really interesting is the setting. It is Grand Rapids, Michigan which I will be visiting very soon. I’m from the area and excited to go for a visit. There is also a part of the book that takes place in Scotland. I have a little Scottish blood and it seems any book that takes place there is a draw for me.

The main characters in the book are Tayla and Simon. Tayla is a Veterinarian and Simon is a nurse. The book is told from both of their points of view. They rotate chapters and the story moves along giving you the viewpoint of each of them. I found this really helpful. I liked knowing the man’s point of view. Tayla is very grounded and trying to make wise decisions but, women often navigate with the heart.

There were times I wanted to knock both characters in the head to see if I could straighten out their thought processes. You know, I think we have all been there. Some life decisions are hard and you have to go with the flow until you know exactly the path you want to take.

A little warning…there are some romantic scenes in the book. If you’ve read anything by Wendy Million, you know what I mean. They weren’t too explicit. They were more on the adult romantic side.

If you like books that pull your heartstrings and yet are fun to read, this might just be your next read. I sometimes like lighthearted books for spring and summer. This one did the trick and I highly recommend it. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS: When matchmaking software pairs a woman with her worst ex, she gets a unique second chance to connect with the love of her life.

After years of bad dates, Tayla Murphy has decided it’s finally time she found her ideal partner, so she pays a hefty fee for a cutting-edge “soulmate” matching service. But the infallible algorithm must have a serious glitch, because it pairs her with the one man on Earth she never wants to see again: Simon—the man who left her heart in pieces when he broke off their engagement six years ago. Tayla would rather cut her losses, but if she’s going to move forward with her life, she needs the money back.

Then Simon shows up on her doorstep, promising Tayla he can get her a refund by showing the service that the match was wrong. But he wants her to really prove they aren’t meant to be—by dating him for the next month. Even though he thinks the service is a fraud, Simon has been desperate for a second chance with Tayla ever since he messed up their shot at happily-ever-after. They still have an amazing connection, but a lot has happened in the time they were apart. So is this a mismatch or a perfect match?

REVIEW: Sanctuary at Lavender Valley is the much awaited third book of the Sisters of the Heart series. Then you will be able to go ahead and read Pathway to Lavender Valley and then this new one.

Sanctuary at Lavender Valley is Olivia’s story. She was one of Jewel’s foster daughters and helped Jewel with her dog rescue. She found her heart in helping others and went on to become a nurse. Trouble in Dry Springs by Kristina Hall ~ 5⭐

Genre:Historical Christian Western Romance ~ Release Date May 24, 2023

REVIEW: If you love westerns and Christian Fiction, you will love the new series by Kristina Hall called the Dry Springs Chronicles! I’m not exactly sure when the next book is coming out but I will be keeping my eyes open and just hoping she trusts me to read her next book. This one was so good!

Volume One is Trouble in Dry Springs. There is a lot of trouble in Dry Springs and this book will keep you on your toes. The main character is Eliza and she was recently brought to live with her brother Anson. He owns a rather nice home and the Saloon in town. She has a rough time settling into the Western town and learning to be the lady of the house. She feels the women in town are not accepting her either.

Eliza is a Christian woman and relies on her faith to get her through her transition and everyday life. This book is not in your face Chrisian and just lets you in on her little prayers sent to heaven as she gets on with life. She does go to church but waits outside until the service is about to begin and then sits in the back. She is a lovely woman and has a lot of heart for her fellow man.

I liked the characters in this book. They are a varied bunch and it makes the story so much more interesting. Watch for Jessie, Burke, Mrs. Reilly and Mr. Peterson. They were my favorites and I think you will like them too.

If you like to read books that are new and interesting, I highly suggest Trouble in Dry Springs. I am anxious to read more of this series. Keep your eyes out and I’ll review that one too. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS: Even the peaceful town of Dry Springs is not without trouble.

When Eliza McCoslin’s brother sends for her, she exchanges war-torn Mississippi for Dry Springs, Texas. Settling into a new way of life proves difficult though, despite the arrival of the man she’s long admired.

Jesse Carrigan comes to Dry Springs seeking work and a place to start the ranch he’s dreamed of ever since his parents lost their farm. What he doesn’t expect to find is the woman he’d like to court—or his former colonel on the run from a deadly threat.

Given the circumstances keeping Jesse and Eliza apart and the danger looming on the horizon, he and Eliza find themselves facing the loss of future love—and life. When trouble comes to Dry Springs, who will be left standing?

Instant Karma by Kay Bratt ~ 5⭐

Genre: Women Sleuths ~ Release Date: May 26, 2023

REVIEW: Instant Karma is another great installment of the Hart’s Ridge series. These books are so good. I’ve read a lot of wonderful sites this last couple of years and this one is on the list of one of the best. The Hart’s Ridge series has a lot of great elements to it and I’ll let you in on a few of them.

Probably one of my favorites is that the setting is a small town. You know me. I love small towns no matter where they are. Everyone knows you and you know everyone. It just gives you a homey feel right from the beginning.

Taylor is a sheriff’s deputy. She loves her town and takes the best care of its residents. I love detective stories so this is another element I love. She really takes care of her family. I admire this young woman.

Each book in the series has a different crime going on and this one has to do with a senior citizen. I have to live that because I am one. By some people’s standards by a lot of years. Don’t worry, if you’re lucky you’ll be old too!

The characters that stay around are ones that you can care about. In every new book I’m looking forward to catching up with the ones I have grown to care about. The characters I don’t like seem to find their way out of town.

If any of these elements are ones that we share, I suggest you try this series. If you haven’t read it yet, the first one is a free download. So, what are you waiting for. This holiday weekend is a good time to jump in and binge read the whole series! Until next time..,Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS: In the small town of Hart’s Ridge, danger is never far away, as Deputy Taylor Gray knows all too well. Even as she hopes for a respite after a recent wave of crime, a stranger arrives in town and threatens the safety of one of its residents. With her instincts honed by years of law enforcement experience, Taylor jumps into action to protect one of their own.

But as Taylor works to uncover the truth behind the stranger’s motives, her sister Jo faces a different kind of challenge. As a single mother who has always shouldered her problems alone, Jo is cautiously optimistic about the future as her family finally seems to be finding stability. But as secrets come to light and tensions rise in the town, she begins to wonder if her newfound hope will be short-lived.

With Kay Bratt’s signature blend of suspense and heart, Instant Karma is a thrilling addition to the Hart’s Ridge small-town mystery series. As the Gray family and their community face new challenges and unexpected twists, readers will be hooked until the very end.

The Cat Saw Who Did It by J.S. Ellis ~5⭐

Genre: Psychological Suspense ~ Release Date: May 16, 2023

REVIEW: The Cat Saw Who Did It by J.S. Ellis is a simply delightful book. I know, I know we are talking about murder here but, we are also talking about a cool cat. Theodore is his name. This is the second book for Theodore. The Neighbors Cat was book one which came out in 2020. I bought the book in anticipation of reading this one. I forgot I had it, so now I need to go back and read it.

This is a sequel to book one but, my experience tells me that this book does very well as a stand alone. I did not get confused or wonder what was going on. The author tells us everything we need to know to enjoy this second story.

The Cat Saw Who Did It is a murder mystery in case you couldn’t tell from the title. Theodore is one of the main characters and he actually narrates part of the book. I told you he is a cool cat. He is a very beautiful Tuxedo cat. More points for Theodore. He is nosey and he has a bit of personality like all cats. The other main character is Jane. She owns Theodore as much as anyone can own a cat. I absolutely fell in love with Theodore. I liked Jane and could relate to her as well. There were some other characters that were not as likable and there were some that were not fleshed out as much.

I did like the murder story and I liked the hair raising ending. J.S. Ellis did a wonderful job with the story line. Her characterization of a cat was spot on in my opinion. This book had me turning pages and hanging on the edge of my chair and holding my breath. I was definitely along for the ride from page one. If you love a quirky little murder mystery, this book is probably one you will enjoy. I think you should put it on the top of your reading list. Until next time…Happy Reading!

SYNOPSIS: I have aided in the capture of a serial killer, which is made even more impressive by the fact that I… am a cat.

Happily settled in with Jane, a would-be victim I helped to save, I thought my days as an amateur sleuth would be traded for belly rubs and sunbeam naps.

Until I watched the man in the apartment complex opposite ours, murder his wife. Once again, it falls to me to help the bumbling humans bring a killer to justice.

Step one is proving to Jane that something horrible happened.

But how do I convince her a crime occurred in the dark of the night? More importantly, how can I prevent her from becoming his next target?

Mom Com by Hilary Grossman ~ 5⭐

Genre: Women’s Humorous Fiction ~ Release Date: May 15, 2023

REVIEW: The Forest River PTA Moms Series has a new addition today! Hilary Grossman has released book five named Mom Com. If you have read any of this series, you really need to read this one. It is so much fun to read. You’ll love it!

It is nice to see the status quo of the PTA shaken up a bit. Their leader Jackie Martin has had to step down. The new PTA president is Ella Jamerson. She has a pretty tough row to hoe if you know what I mean. These women are vicious. They are so mean. We all know how some women can be. I can’t wait for you, the PTA and the rest of the school to find out who Ella Jamerson really is. Wow!

I think this is the most fun book I have read in a little while. It was a nice break from heavier reads and it takes you out of your humdrum life and adds some spice, some frivolity and best of all some juicy gossip. Since I am no longer in the workforce, I don’t hear much gossip and besides this doesn’t hurt anyone and it is all for a good read. Right?

If you love Women’s Humorous Fiction, you’ll love this book. It is best if read with the whole series but, it does well as a stand alone. I think you will get a better idea of the history of all the women if you read the series from the beginning. I give this series my stamp of approval. I love Hilary Grossman!

After the Storm by Ashley Farley ~ 5⭐

Genre: Family Life Fiction ~ Release Date: May 10, 2023

REVIEW: I don’t know what it is about books by Ashley Farley but, from the minute I pick one up, I am gone to another world. After the Storm was another one of those books for me. This book is supposed to revisit characters from the Sweeney Sisters Series. If you haven’t read that series yet, that is ok. I haven’t either and I was totally immersed in this book from page one. She did a beautiful job making it a stand alone novel. There is another one coming out in August that will also be a stand alone and I can’t wait that long!

The main characters in this book are in their mid to late 20’s. Even though I am much older than that, I still enjoyed the story. The characters live mostly in the same town and are mostly cousins considering they are offspring of the Sweeney sisters. There are spouses and girlfriends of these young adults and a few friends. Most of them are likable. You have to have a villain in a story to dislike. Right? Oh, and there are puppies too!

There are many problems going on and there is the typical angst that happens in everyday life but, the book is full of hope and lighthearted fun and dreams. I was entertained and involved with what was happening and couldn’t wait to get back to reading when I had to put it down. If you love a book that brings joy and happiness, one that will take you to a town on the beach then this book is for you! If you are a fan of Ashely’s, this book is definitely for you! Until next time…Happy Reading!
